Sid Vicious Kills Nancy - Hotels Where Bad S%$# Happens
Katie Lockhart | September 30th, 2006
The Chelsea Hotel had always been infamous to housing artists, musicians, writers, and many other cast of characters throughout the years. Arthur C. Clarke wrote 2001: Space Odyssey while staying in the hotel and icons like Robert Crumb, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, and Stanley Kubrick have all been residents of the hotel. It certified its position as one of the top hotels where bad s^%$ happens when on October 12, 1978 Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious woke up to find his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen (one of the most hated woman in the punk scene) on the floor of the bathroom dead in a puddle of blood. She had been stabbed once in the abdomen. He was arrested and charged with her murder, however he claimed that he never remembered killing her. Sid was sent to Rikers Island and got clean of drugs, however the day after he was released he died of a heroine overdose. See the documentary The Filth and The Fury for further information.
