Melbourne Hotels We Love

The Westin

The Westin may be a big hotel and as such it may be modern generic but the location, smack bang in the center of Melbourne, is great and the service is sensational - it feels almost boutique in its mood. If you want to be central, this is the best spot.

Hotel Lindrum

The Lindrum sits just on the edge of the city and it is one of Melbourne’s most beloved hotels located in a beautiful old building overlooking the park. What it has in charm and location it lacks in soundproofing - make sure you get a room on a higher floor in case there’s a party on the ground floor when you stay.

The Hatton

At the lower end of the price spectrum, The Hatton’s a gem. It’s in a typically beautiful Melbourne building - originally built as an inn. The interior’s been well considered with the breakfast room / reception being homely and chic. The rooms aren’t the greatest - often small and a little basic - but they do have free broadband, which is rare these days. The hotel’s one or two suburbs out from the city with the botanical gardens just down the road, a tram line immediately outside the front door and lots of great cafes nearby.

The Lyall

Out in the suburbs (the posh suburbs that is) you’ll find this little delight, a boutique hotel at its best with a great beauty spa and sensational breakfasts. There are lots of good little cafes and restaurants nearby and reasonably close to everything else Melbourne has to offer. The general look of the place is well considered and the whole vibe comfortable and chic.

The Prince

The Prince is a 1930’s art deco hotel in Melbourne’s beach side suburb of St. Kilda. One of the first boutique hotel make overs in Melbourne (it was redone about 10 years ago). The Prince has retained its freshness. The rooms are small but the details are good (lighting, bathroom products etc.) and the breakfast room is beautiful. It has a lovely indoor pool and a couple of great terraces for sunbathing. The neighborhood’s one of Melbourne’s coolest and there’s plenty to do nearby, especially if you’re after great food. The city’s not far away and the trams run right past the front door.
