Angelika Film Center During Rush Hour
Valery Gherman | June 23rd, 2007
To be honest, I do really love this place.Angelika Theater in Soho is one of the the three main independant cinemas along Housten, the other being Sunshine Theater further east and the other Film Forum, which is further west. They all play the latest independant films and have a really great vibe. Angelika has a really large waiting area with a nice cafe and ‘grown up’ refreshments you would usually find in a cool indie theater complexes. There are two drawbacks though with this place. Although the cinemas are really small and intimate, the aisle runs smack down the middle of the theatre. Secondly, the subway line runs directly under or next to the theatre so you feel the shake, and the sound of the train screeching past during the film.No way to avoid it, but maybe the best option is to avoid rush hour. Choose a Sunday or a public holiday when the trains are less frequent, better still, when the MTA has another strike would be most ideal.
