Barcelona Restaurant

Following on in the ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ theme, and introducing the ‘worst luck in air travel for a small domestic holiday’ category I am pleased to recount a visit I made to Barcelona Restaurant in Christchurch.

My lack of planning and wonderful ability to mis-read the fine-print meant that I booked a return flight from Queenstown to Auckland WITH A 3.5HR STOP-OVER IN CHRISTCHURCH. How I did this I’ll never know.

Anyway, always the optimist and ever the foodie I took some advice from a good friend and went to Barcelona Restaurant in Christchurch. Located on ‘The Strip’, Barcelona is nestled in between some of Christchurch’s better culinary establishments.

It was a quiet Tuesday evening, so a table was easy to come by. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere warm and the service quick.

The beef wrapped in prosciutto with horseradish mash was a good choice by me (I have to congratulate myself on the small achievements seeing as I failed miserably on so many other easy tasks this holiday) and the Isabel Pinot Noir was a fantastic match. Accompanied by a rocket salad and followed by a delicious rhubard crumble with black doris plum ice cream, this meal was a total hit.

Barcelona is, from now on, going to be my regular in Christchurch.

And it was a good counterpoint to the fact my flight back to Auckland was delayed another 1.5hrs on top of that 3.5hr stop-over.
