The reason you haven’t heard people raving about Lord Howe is simple – mass tourism is outlawed. 350 residents and 400 tourists are the only humans allowed on the heritage-listed island at any one time. It gives the place a relaxed, orderly and slightly exclusive feel. For a relatively small island LH has a lot of love to give: two sheer mountains to climb, a bright green lagoon to paddle, numerous world class reefs to dive, a surf break to charge and a collection of rare fauna to spot. You could spend a week and not tick everything off the list. In fact there’s so much to do you kind of feel guilty cracking beers and falling asleep by the pool in the early afternoon. That little upset aside Lord Howe is stunning. You’ll get gooseflesh flying in – it looks, well, it looks like heaven.
