So you’ve been to Bali too? Great. Pass the sauce. Don’t let this be the conversation at your next barbeque with friends. Either get new easily-impressed friends or go somewhere interesting this summer. Sri Lanka, for example. Maha season (Oct-Jan) is the best time to visit the hot, palm-lined beaches of the south west and cool central hill country of this truly exotic land. You’ll travel by tuk-tuk, follow the path of Buddha (who visited Ceylon three times in his illustrious life) and eat rice and curry on your haunches with a sari-clad elephant herder by the side of the road. When you get sick of that, head to the south coast and check into an opulent five star spa resort. Sri Lanka offers adventure, luxury and much in-between. It’s like Bali thirty years ago but with tea-houses, curry joints and snake charmers.
