Brisbane

If you’re ever in Brisbane for a night, catch a ride to a city-fringe suburb called Bulimba and have a meal at Sugomi Restaurant.

Sugomi is a casual place to eat, but has a menu and staff that far exceed the expectation that its reserved veneer portrays.

Caine Edwards, the restaurant manager, was working the night we visited and I have to say I haven’t had hospitality service of Caine’s standard for some time. He greeted us, welcomed us to the table, introduced himself and made us feel completely relaxed in no time. Furthermore, he had a knowledge of his menu, it’s ingredients, wine list, wine matches, staff skills and staff credentials that was second to none.

Caine’s best recommendations of the night came in the form of his steak selection, which was made up of three delectable cuts. All the beef was grown in Australia, including a 250g marble 9+ wagyu rump cap which came from the only farm this side of Japan to grow such a steak.

The six of us at the table all had a hugely enjoyable night and I would recommend a visit to Sugomi any time.
