San Juan, Puerto Rico

Itching to get away for the weekend, I desperately needed some beach time. I was contemplating flying to Miami for the weekend, but somehow stumbled over the idea of visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico which is just three and a half hours from NYC and located in the Caribbean. I couldn’t decide originally whether to stay in the Old Town of San Juan or on the beach. I reckoned the beach would be best because I only had the weekend to relax. The Old town is literally only 15 minutes away in a cab and is the cultural epicentre of the city filled with amazing restaurants, rich in history, and beautiful colonial Spanish architecture. We stayed at The Water Beach Club Hotel, which was amazing. It had the Miami style boutique hotel vibe, without the usual price tag. We had water front views from our room and use of the private hotel beach club, which had great service with all the luxuries. The beach strip was definitely full of the usual hotel chain high rises, but somehow the charming hotel was isolated from the condensed part.

Jet Blue have some pretty amazing flights there too quite often only $99 from from NYC each way. We literally flew out 9pm Friday night arrived 12.30am and returned Sunday leaving 9.30pm arriving in NYC 12.30 am the next day, Back at work in time on Monday. Perfect weekend.
