When asking for a place to get away for spring, fellow RunawayNow writer Marion Hume suggested the pet-friendly resort Temple Tree at Bon Ton in Malaysia. Constructed on an old coconut plantation, this luxury villa hotel is the go-to spot for relaxation, beautiful weather and tranquility. There are several houses to choose from - The Black & White House, The Colonial House, and my favorite, The Chinese House, which was originally a farmhouse built 100 years ago. It has beautiful mountain views, Chinese decor and its own Mahjong room and Chinese library. I cannot wait to try the Nam Restaurant, which has Western and Eastern fusion cuisine to make your mouth water. The BBQ rock lobster tails with satay sauce served on guava salad will be the first thing I dig in to and, as a dessert lover, I am excited to try their homemade ice cream. A scoop of banana lime and gull melaka (palm sugar), please! I’ll follow the golden rule, wait an hour to digest, and take a dip in the pool surrounded by palm trees, of course. I’ll finish off my day reading with a dry martini in one hand and my book in the other.
What makes this destination unique is that a portion of their profits go to LASSie - Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary Foundation, which is just steps away from the resort and for an animal lover like myself, that is music to my ears. LASSie has a no-kill policy and aims at sterilizing stray cats to control the pet population. They also provide medical assistance to animals with disabilities and health problems. What more could you want from a resort?
