Looking for something new to do in London town? There is no excuse not to experience something new and exciting when you live in a city as diverse as London. There are always options. One idea for a more ridiculous weekend, try out the Roller Disco in Vauxhall. Ridiculous is certainly the right adjective for an evening spent here. Neon (everywhere), two bars and 18 to 30 something’s on rollerblades, always a recipe for entertainment. This place gets very busy; the novelty factor keeps the punters coming, so it is best to get there early. Doors open at 8pm (Thursday through Saturday) and tickets at the weekend are between £7.50 and £15 depending on the day, check out their website for more details. The drinks are also on the expensive side, which if you think about it is a very good thing. However, if Dutch courage is needed before you strap wheels to your feet, there are plenty of inviting bars around Vauxhall station; try The Rose on Albert Embankment, the food is divine.
If you are looking for something that involves fewer bruises you could get yourself some tickets to the Secret Cinema. The Secret Cinema is a society for people who love Cinema. The basic concept is; you purchase a ticket for a specific evening and you are given a dress code. Nearer the time the location is revealed. It is a thrilling and exciting way to spend an evening with other people who have a passion for cinema and a love of novelty. The use of costume creates an amazing atmosphere and they mystery of the secret cinema offers up an evening of excitement, even if the film is not entirely to your taste. The tickets are a little on the expensive side at £75 a pop, but you do get an appetiser, main course and dessert as well as entrance to the cinema for your money. Plus, it is certainly and evening you will never forget. Perhaps, with Valentines Day round the corner, take someone special for an evening of mystery. What could be more romantic?
Or for a really alternative night out, take a look at the Last Tuesday Society. They hold extravagant and bizarre masked balls; the next one is The Valentine’s Masked Ball, as well as lectures and events, from the weird; From the Magnificent to the Macabre Send-Offs for the Dead with Sarah Murray to the wonderful; Erotic Magic Lantern Show with Professor Mervyn Heard. The Last Tuesday Society is not for the prudish, expect scandalous behaviour and nudity at the balls, but that’s what the masks are for. Try being someone else for an evening. Tickets for the balls cost £25 the dress code, according to their mantra is ‘diving decadence-Masks obligatory, clothes optional. 10pm to 3am.’
