When my boyfriend and I discussed our engagement this winter, I had two requirements for a ring - no diamonds and it had to be antique. I’d never been the Holly Golightly-type of gal to ogle in front of a Tiffany’s store. I’ve always been in awe of Liz Taylor’s jewelry collection as well as my mother’s collection from the 70’s and 80’s. I’d heard good things about Doyle & Doyle, located in the Lower East Side, which specializes in antique and estate jewelry. After trying on ruby, topaz and emerald rings, we decided to purchase a gold Victorian sapphire ring flanked by tiny sea pearls; it is both unique and stunning.
Since then, Doyle & Doyle has become my new favorite place to browse in New York City. If engagement rings are not in the horizon, stop in and browse the cases of broaches, necklaces, earrings and bracelets or take a look at their site. Highlights include a set of Georgian rose cut diamond drop earrings, Victorian turquoise dragon bracelet with ruby eyes and a jade ring surrounded by a grape leaf gold motif just to name a few. Whether you are funky, traditional or Doyle & Doyle have a collection of alluring jewelry that would satisfy the needs for any occasion.
