La Column d’Or has long been the restaurant, (not to mention boutique accommodation) that friends had been to and I had dreamt about - thankfully a recent trip to Cannes corrected this. Just a short drive from Cannes, La Column d’Or is perched up on the hillside of Saint-Paul de Vence. Eating [...]

Paris’s latest retail love affair is with the absolutely gorgeous Merci. A delightful mini department store that manages to be chic and relaxed al at once. The fashion edit is sensational but its other departments covering furniture, interior design, books and more make it a fully rounded 1500 meter gem. For [...]

One of my absolute favourite things to do in Paris is to visit The Museum of Natural History. The museum itself takes little time to view and is worth the visit simply for the main gallery of marching animals. Sensational.

When I see the letters, ‘B&B’, I think cosy chintz, a selection of jams in little pots, maybe a snarly cat curled up in the corner. I do not think modern design done subtly and well, ceilings so high and white that a whole wall beneath can be painted jet black and [...]

Did your Mum always tell you to wear nice underwear in case you were hit by a bus? Might I suggest you also maintain a flawless pedicure? Because you never can tell when you might have to exit a limo. It’s your twinkle toes the paparazzi spot first.
From now on, I’m going to follow my [...]

Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce Kleyer, a New Zealander who lives in the once industrial but now hip suburb of Montreuil, a short Metro ride just outside of Paris. Bruce runs a woodworking and steam bending workshop together with Peter Steitzner.
Having acquired machinery originally used for building the arms of horse [...]

When your little hotel becomes a favorite of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Calder and Braque who all spent time here over their long summers in the South of France, it’s the makings of something pretty special. Short on funds, these masters and others, painted for their supper, donating original works by the bundle. Thus the atmosphere [...]

I had carried an article about the Parisian Natural History Museum in my notebook for years and finally managed to get there on my latest trip.. Always a lover of all things stuffed this museum displayed its specimens in such a way that they seemed to interact with the architecture. A playful mix [...]

Sure, it’s on every souvenir they sell in Paris but it is fabulous and there’s no getting away from it. First trip to Paris you must visit the Eiffel Tower. Avoid the middle of the day rather go first thing or late, but do it. Just so you can say you have.

By the time Sarah (aka creative director/head buyer of the 9-year old famed shopping mecca colette) reads this she’s going to be pissed. She’s not one for “spotlight” interviews you see and never agrees to even having her photo taken. Anyway, we’ll deal with that when this story [...]
